Volkswagen has trimmed the 2019 Tiguan range to three models, the line-up now consists of the 132TSI Comfortline, 162TSI Highline and the 162TSI Wolfsburg Edition.

The range now starts at $42,490 plus on-road costs, is exclusively petrol powered with a seven-speed DSG and all-wheel drive as standard.

Volkswagen has pointed to the new WLTP (World harmonised Light vehicle Testing Procedure) as the reason for production constraints leading to the absence of the entry-level front-wheel drive Tiguan variants.

The production delay is only temporary, an entry-level 110TSI will return to showrooms in due course.

Interestingly, the brand points out the 162TSI Highline accounts for 50 per cent of Tiguan sales. According to the data, Volkswagen buyers aren’t the type to chase poverty packs.

While the Tiguan range has been temporarily trimmed, buyers can turn to the five variants of the slightly longer Tiguan Allspace.

The Wolfsburg Edition will be the new Tiguan flagship, based on the 162TSI Highline, it comes standard with the Sound & Vision and R-Line packages, unique black exterior trim enhancements, 20-inch Black Suzuka alloys, 90 per cent rear window tint, head up display and metallic paint.

The revised 2019 Tiguan range is scheduled to arrive in October.
