Specs and pricing have been announced for the all-new 2020 Audi A1 Sportback range ahead of a local arrival later this month.
Built on a new foundation, the new A1 brings a fresh design, more cabin space and a major safety upgrade.
Size-wise, the new A1 is 56mm longer, with the wheelbase stretched by 94mm for more rear-seat space. The luggage capacity has also been increased by a substantial 65L to a very usable 335L.
The range consists of three petrol drivetrains starting with the 30 TFSI (from $32,350 plus on-roads) which is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine producing 85kW and 200Nm. A seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic sends drive to the front wheels.
Audi claims the 30 TFSI runs from 0-100km/h in 9.4 seconds and sips 5.4L/100km on the combined cycle.
Standard equipment on the base car includes 16-inch alloy wheels, heated wing mirrors, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8.8-inch MMI infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB charging ports, DAB+ digital radio, a six-speaker audio system, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, and autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection.
The mid-range 35 TFSI (from $35,290 plus on-roads) uses a new 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine developing 110kW and 250Nm. It also uses a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic to drive the front wheels.
According to Audi, the 35 TFSI takes 7.7 seconds to hit triple figures from a standstill and uses 5.8L/100km on the combined cycle.
Moving to the range-topping 40 TFSI S line (from $46,450 plus on-roads) adds 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, an S line exterior styling pack, LED headlights and tail-lights, electric folding wing mirrors, adaptive dampers with Audi drive select, the larger 10.1-inch MMI touch navigation system with Audi connect plus, wireless Apple CarPlay, an upgraded 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, sports front seats, paddle shifters and dual-zone climate control.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that’s good for 147kW and 320Nm, it’s paired with a six-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The 40 TFSI can complete the 0-100km/h dash in just 6.5 seconds and is rated to consume 6.4L/100km on the combined cycle.
