Australian specs and pricing have been announced for the 2020 Audi R8 range ahead of a local arrival next month.

Audi will offer the R8 in both rear- and all-wheel drive configurations with a choice of coupe and spyder body styles priced from $295,000 plus on-road costs.

To determine the model, the nomenclature for the R8 will be either V10 RWD or V10 performance quattro.

Every variant is powered by a 5.2-litre V10 engine tuned to produce 397kW/540Nm in the rear wheel drive models and 449kW/560Nm in the quattro all-wheel drive cars.

Regardless of the engine’s tune, it’s matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The V10 gets a Cylinder-on-Demand system which can shut down a bank of five cylinders under light throttle load to conserve fuel. The official consumption figures are 12.2L/100km and 13.4L/100km for the RWD and AWD respectively.

Performance-wise, Audi says the RWD R8 coupe can sprint from zero to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds (3.8 for the RWD Spyder), while the quattro AWD coupe can hit triple figures in 3.2 seconds (3.3 for the AWD Spyder).

Further engineering highlights include an aluminium and carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) body, double-wishbone suspension and a near fully-sealed underbody.

In terms of design, the new R8 features a wider and flatter singleframe grille, darkened headlights, a wider front splitter and new oval exhaust pipes at the rear. There are also 20-inch alloy wheels fitted to all models as well as metallic paint as standard.

Internally the R8 gets the MMI Navigation plus system with dual touchscreens, a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit, wireless smartphone charging and a 13-speaker 550-watt Bang & Olufsen sound system.

R8 RWD variants also feature heated R8 sports seats upholstered in Nappa leather with contrast stitching and heated, piano black inlays, a rear-view camera with parking system plus, a convenience key and electric folding heated wing mirrors.

There are also 18-inch steel 'wave' disc brakes, clamped by red calipers all around, with eight pistons at the front and four at the rear, sports suspension, and a tyre pressure loss indicator.

Moving to the R8 V10 performance quattro adds an exclusive gloss carbon exterior styling package, R8 bucket seats (also in fine Nappa leather) and a black Alcantara headlining.

Ceramic brakes are standard and measure in at 9.0-inches in diameter, clamped by six-piston calipers at the front and four at the rear. The calipers can be ordered in a choice of anthracite, red or blue at no additional cost.

Audi R8 Spyder models come with a soft-top weighing 44kg that can be opened and closed in 20 seconds at speeds up to 50km/h.

In total, nine exterior and interior colour combinations are available as well as two carbon styling option packages.

The 2020 Audi R8 Coupe and Spyder are set to arrive in dealers on July 24 priced from $295,000 plus on-road costs.
