Local specifications and pricing have been confirmed for the BMW 840i Coupe and Convertible.
Due to arrive in dealerships from September, the 840i significantly lowers the cost of entry to 8 Series ownership with prices starting at $202,900 (plus on-roads) for the Coupe and $217,900 (plus on-roads) for the Convertible.
The new entry-level 8 Series model gets power from a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine developing 250kW of power and 500Nm of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends drive to the rear wheels.
There is no word on whether or not the 840i xDrive variant will make it Down Under.
In rear drive guise, BMW claims the 840i Coupe can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 5.0 seconds whilst the Convertible can complete the dash in 5.3 seconds.
Equipment highlights include 20-inch M light bi-colour alloy wheels, an M Sport differential and M Sport brakes.
Comfort access with an automatic tailgate, soft-close doors and a digital key are included as standard.
On the inside, the 840i gets heated and ventilated front seats, an M leather steering wheel, a BMW carbon core transmission tunnel, extended ‘Merino’ leather upholstery, wireless phone charging, driving assistant professional, parking assistant plus with reversing assistant and a BMW display key.
BMW’s latest Operating System 7.0 is standard and includes Live Cockpit Professional, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen.
Gesture control, an Anthracite headliner and a 16-speaker Harmon Kardon surround sound system are specific to the Coupe.
Convertible buyers get a soft top in black or silver with an Anthracite silver effect, air collar neck warmers and a 12-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system.
