BMW has revealed the X1 xDrive25e, the plug-in hybrid variant of its small SUV range.
The powertrain combines a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 92kW and 220Nm, along with an electric motor that offers 70kW and 165Nm. The system’s total outputs are listed as 165kW and 385Nm.
A six-speed automatic sends the engine’s power to the front wheels, while the electric motor drives the rear wheels through a single-speed transmission.
According to the WLTP cycle, when the 9.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack is charged, the X1 PHEV offers up to 50km of pure-electric driving range.
The 0-100km/h dash takes 7.0 seconds on its way to a top speed of 130km/h in EV mode, climbing to 192km/h with the engine in operation.
The battery can be fully charged in “less than 3.6 hours” using a BMW i Wallbox. Alternatively, it takes “around five hours” when connected to a conventional wall socket.
Equipment highlights include 17-inch alloy wheels, two-zone automatic climate control with cabin pre-conditioning via BMW Connected using a smartphone, a unique driver display, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay.
BMW Australia is yet to confirm local availability, specifications and pricing.
