BMW Australia has confirmed the X7 M50i xDrive will be available in the fourth quarter of this year priced from $171,900 plus on-road costs.

With production issues making the M50d temporarily unavailable, the M50i will act as the X7 flagship. Power comes from a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol unit which produces 390kW of power and 750Nm of torque, the latter is available from 1800rpm. It’s the same engine found in the recently released M850i and upcoming M550i.

An eight-speed automatic sends power to all four corners through BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system. BMW claims the X7 M50i is capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds.

Standard equipment on the seven-seater includes 22-inch M light alloy wheels, an M performance exhaust, an M Sport differential, adaptive 2-axle air suspension, integral active steering, metallic paint, a panoramic sunroof and BMW Laserlight headlights.

On the inside, buyers get Merino leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped instrument panel, heated front seats, heated cup holders, five-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, ambient lighting, a 16-speaker harmon/kardon sound system, wireless smartphone charging and soft-close doors.

There’s plenty of tech on show with Driving Assistant Professional, Parking Assistant Plus, the Connected Package Professional, a head-up display and the new Live Cockpit Professional all included.

Buyers can option BMW’s new factory-designed and installed towing system for $2500 which gives the X7 a braked towing capacity of 3500kg. The maximum downball load is 280kg.

The X7 M50i is available to order now with deliveries set to commence during the fourth quarter of this year.
