Ford Australia has announced the Ranger FX4 special edition will return to dealerships with the wider MY20 update in December.

Initially limited to 1000 units, the FX4 is positioned between the popular XLT and Wildtrak models with pricing still to be confirmed.

FX4 variants will be differentiated by an Ebony Black mesh front grille, exterior mirrors, door/tailgate handles and fender features.

There are also darkened bi-LED headlights, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, an extended black sports bar and 3D effect FX4 decals.

Exterior colour options include Shadow Black, Arctic White, True Red, Meteor Grey and Aluminium Metallic.

Internally the FX4 gets leather-accented sports bucket seats with a special pattern and embossed FX4 logos, a premium black ‘soft top’ instrument panel, Tinted Graphite door tops, FX4-branded floor mats and Race Red contrast stitching throughout.

Also found inside is the Sync3 infotainment system which features voice-activated sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a rear-view camera.

Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keeping aid, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and automatic high-beam are also standard.

Buyers will be able to option a Tech Pack which adds adaptive cruise control and semi-automatic parallel parking.

Ford will offer the Ranger FX4 with two powertrain options starting with the new 157kW/500Nm 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel unit matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The familiar 3.2-litre five-cylinder turbo-diesel engine offering 147kW and 470Nm is also available, paired with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Both powertrains are rated to tow 3500kg.

Ford is yet to confirm pricing for the MY20 Ranger line-up, full details are expected closer to the December launch.
