Specs and pricing have been announced for the 2020 Honda Accord which arrives locally with a hybrid powertrain option.

Honda Australia is offering the new Accord in only one trim level - VTi-LX - with a choice of two powertrains starting at $47,990 plus on-road costs.

The Accord VTi-LX range opens with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 140kW and 260Nm.  It’s matched to a CVT automatic that drives the front wheels.

Buyers chasing the Hybrid will need to stump up $50,490 plus on-road costs. Power comes from a 2.0-litre Atkinson Cycle four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors to develop 158kW and 315Nm. On the combined cycle, Honda claims a fuel consumption figure of 4.3L/100km.

Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, and an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Honda Sensing suite of safety tech is standard and includes autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitoring, a head-up display, a surround-view camera, and adaptive cruise control.

The new Accord is a larger car than its predecessor, Honda says there's an extra 49mm of rear legroom, while the boot space has improved by 113 litres, to 570 litres.

Buyers will see the new Accord arriving in dealerships during December.
