Lexus has revealed the production version of the LC500 Convertible ahead of an Australian launch in the second half of 2020.
The LC500 Convertible is the third drop-top in the brand's 30-year history, and measures in just 10mm longer and 5mm taller than the coupe, with a retained four-seat capacity and “near-identical luggage space.”
Interestingly, it appears the Convertible will only be offered with the 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine developing 351kW and 540Nm. The hybrid powertrain offered in the coupe is yet to be mentioned.
For some additional noise, Lexus has equipped the Convertible with a valved exhaust and a sound generator that transmits the engine intake sound through the dash panel.
The fabric roof can be opened and closed in just 15 seconds while travelling at up to 50km/h. The material is designed to ensure optimal tension and avoid wrinkling.
To keep things stiff without adding weight, the front bow structure of the roof frame is made from magnesium alloy, while the rear suspension tower brace is composed of die-cast aluminium.
There’s also an additional rocker-panel brace, braces under the body, the new active cornering assist and active roll-bar technologies.
A 52:48 weight distribution also shifts slightly rearward compared with the coupe.
The interior looks identical to that of the coupe, Lexus says the Convertible features exclusive door handles and 'L' embossed headrests with neck heaters.
To keep things civil with the top down, there’s a transparent polycarbonate wind deflector to suppress wind flow inside the car.
The Morphic Blue paint (pictured) which was first seen on the coupe will be limited to 300 units of the Convertible.
Australian pricing is yet to be confirmed, full details will be announced in the lead up to the LC500 Convertible’s local launch next year.
