Mazda Australia has announced updates to the 2020 CX-5 which the brand says add more technology, safety equipment and refinement.
Headlining the changes is the inclusion of Mazda’s new Off-Road Traction Assist as standard on AWD models. The tech brings the AWD and traction control systems together to effectively electronically lock the rear differential. According to Mazda, the system monitors traction to distribute the right amount of torque to the tyres that have grip to suppress wheel spin and maximising traction performance.
Models powered by the 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine now get a cylinder deactivation display added to MZD Connect. This allows the driver to see when the engine shuts down cylinders 1 and 4 to conserve fuel.
Safety gets a boost with night-time pedestrian detection added to the autonomous emergency braking function (Smart City Brake Support), while all variants from the Maxx Sport grade and above are now fitted with paddle shifters.
Several NVH changes have been applied to achieve a quieter cabin. All models get new headliner material that provides a 10 per cent improvement in low-frequency sound absorption. Petrol-powered models also feature a steering vibration countermeasure to reduce vibrations felt through the wheel.
Vehicles equipped with the 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine go a step further with the capacity of the silencer shell expanded, the exhaust tail sound suppressed and the rigidity of the tyre pan that holds the spare increased.
Additional changes include a larger 8.0-inch infotainment display for the entry grade Maxx, while all versions get Mazda’s new generation nameplate badging and key fob design. Polymetal Grey Metallic has also been added to the colour lineup.
The updated 2020 Mazda CX-5 is available at dealerships now.
