Updates have been announced for the 2020 Mazda CX-9 range with the seven-seater getting additional driving tech, safety, comfort, functionality and trim options.

 

The CX-9 will continue to be available in Sport, Touring and GT trim levels, the only change is the Azami takes over from the Azami LE as the range-topper.

 

For 2020 the CX-9 will gain G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus) which uses brake control to help stabilise and return the vehicle to straight-line running when coming out of a turn. The result is steering that is not only safer but also puts the driver at ease, providing a more connected feeling.

 

All-wheel drive variants will also get Mazda’s Off-Road Traction Assist to aid grip on undulating roads.

 

Night driving will be safer with the addition of an upgraded autonomous emergency braking system that detects pedestrians in the dark.

 

All CX-9 models will also benefit from auto-hold function on the electric parking brake which will hold the vehicle stopped even when the brake is released.

 

There’s also revised colours and designs for the 18- and 20-inch alloy wheels, and the new key fob design and updated badging first seen on the latest Mazda 3.

 

USB ports have been added to the third row, and there’s a switch to tilt and move forward the second-row seats that allow easier access to the rearmost pews.

 

All grades apart from the entry-level Sport get a larger 9.0-inch infotainment screen, while the GT and Azami models now include a hands-free tailgate activated by a kicking gesture.

 

Specific to the Azami variant is new Nappa leather available in Walnut Brown or Pure White paired with black for a two-tone pattern, as well as improved adaptive LED headlights offering greater visibility.

 

The range will remain powered by the 170kW/420Nm 2.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission with a choice of front or all-wheel drive.
