Mercedes-AMG has announced specs and pricing for the new A45 S and CLA45 S performance models.

 

Both cars are on sale now with the A45 S hatch priced from $93,600 plus on-road costs, while the CLA45 S four-door coupe starts from $111,200 plus on-roads.

 

Power comes from AMG’s new M139 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine generating 310 kW of power and 500 Nm of torque (up 30kW and 25Nm when compared to the previous models). At this point in time, it’s the world’s most powerful four-cylinder production engine.

 

An eight-speed DCT automatic sends all that power to the AMG-developed Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system with AMG torque control and a special drift mode. The latter has been made possible by a new rear axle differential featuring two multidisc clutches – one for each rear wheel.

 

According to Mercedes-AMG, the A45 S sprints from 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds, while the CLA45 S can hit triple figures from a standstill in 4.0 seconds.

 

A high-performance braking system is standard consisting of 360mm x 36mm discs at the front clamped by six-piston fixed calipers, while the rear gets 330mm x 22mm discs with single-piston floating calipers.

 

The AMG ride control adaptive damping system is fitted as standard and enables the driver to choose between three different suspension control modes, from comfort-focused to sporty. The system functions automatically, adapting the damping forces for each wheel according to the driving situation and road conditions.

 

On the inside, the MBUX infotainment system features AMG-specific details that include a race timer, a G-meter, engine data, plus individual AMG displays such as visualisation of the driving programs.

 

The A45 S featured the latest AMG-specific radiator grille, wider front wings with flared wheel arches, wider AMG side skirts, a unique rear diffuser and two pairs of round 90mm tailpipes with internal fluting and AMG lettering.

 

Using the CLA architecture, the CLA45 S uses a wider front track for a more aggressive stance. It’s also distinguished by an AMG-specific radiator grille, jet-like external air inlets inspired by the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, a diffuser with four individual fins, a boot lid-mounted spoiler and 19-inch AMG alloy wheels.

 

Both models also get a Burmester surround sound system, an AMG Performance steering wheel trimmed in Dinamica microfibre with contrasting yellow stitching, heated and electrically-operated sports seats finished in two-tone leather with contrasting yellow stitching, brushed aluminium trim, keyless go and start, ambient lighting featuring 64 colours, privacy glass and a panoramic sunroof.

 

The safety kit includes the Driving Assistance Package Plus, active distance assist with cross-traffic assist, active lane change assist, a 360-degree camera system, adaptive high-beam and route-based speed adaptation.
