The 2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA35 has been revealed ahead of a public debut in New York on April 16, it will join the hatch and sedan variants in local showrooms during the fourth quarter of 2019.

The CLA35 is powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine found in the hatch and sedan, it develops 225kW of power at 5,800rpm and 400Nm of torque from 3,000 to 4,000rpm. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sends power to all four wheels through the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

The torque distribution is infinitely variable to suit the driving situation. The spectrum ranges from front-wheel drive only to a 50:50 distribution to the front and rear axles.

Mercedes-AMG claims the CLA35 can sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds maxing out at an electrically-limited top speed of 250km/h.

Stopping power is provided by 350mm discs with new four-piston calipers up front, while the rear gets 330mm discs with one-piston calipers.

Five AMG drive modes are available for selection: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual. Each mode changes the response of the engine and transmission to match the driving situation.

The four-door CLA coupe is distinguished by two powerdomes on the bonnet, a new radiator grille, an AMG Line front apron, a sports body kit, 18-inch alloy wheels, a unique diffuser and AMG badging.

Internally, the CLA35 gets sports seats trimmed in leather and microfiber, the latest AMG flat-bottom steering wheel and Mercedes-Benz's new MBUX infotainment system.

The 2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA35 4Matic will be properly unveiled at the New York motor show, Australian deliveries are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2019 with specs and pricing to be announced closer to the launch date.
