Mercedes-AMG has revealed the new E 53 4Matic+ ahead of an Australian arrival in the fourth quarter of 2020.

The updated E 53 is differentiated by a restyled front end with an AMG-specific radiator grille, flat LED headlamps, a new front apron and all-LED tail-lights.

There’s a revised rear apron on the sedan, while both the sedan and wagon get a new diffuser insert and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The exterior colour range has been extended to include graphite grey metallic, mojave silver metallic and high-tech silver metallic.

On the inside, buyers get the MBUX infotainment system with AMG-specific functions and displays for the instrument cluster and central touchscreen and the new AMG steering wheel.

Silver grey/pearl Nappa leather with red contrasting topstitching is now available as an option.

Power comes from a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 320kW and 520Nm. It’s augmented by the brand’s EQ Boost starter-alternator that briefly provides an additional 16kW and 250Nm for short bursts and feeds the 48V mild hybrid electrical system.

A nine-speed automatic sends power to the fully variable AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system.

Mercedes-AMG claims the car can sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 270km/h.

The high-performance brakes consist of 370 x 36mm discs with four-piston fixed calipers at the front and 360 x 26mm discs with single-piston floating calipers at the rear.

Safety also gets a boost with an upgraded autonomous braking system, tweaked lane assist and an expanded blind-spot monitoring system that detects if a bicycle is approaching prior to you exiting the car after parking.
