Mini has released details of the updated 2020 John Cooper Works (JCW) Clubman and Countryman following the announcement earlier this year that the performance duo was Australia-bound.

The biggest change to the updated JCW Clubman and Countryman resides under the bonnet, both models now pack the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine developing 225kW and 450Nm currently found in the BMW X2 M35i. Mini says this is the most powerful engine ever fitted to a production model.

The new engine offers an additional 55kW and 100Nm over the outgoing unit which means the JCW Clubman accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds, while the JCW Countryman can sprint to triple figures in 5.1 seconds – 1.4 and 1.5 seconds faster than in the previous models respectively. The top speed of each model is electronically-limited to 250km/h.

In both models, a new torque-optimised, eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to the brand’s ALL4 all-wheel drive system.

There’s also a mechanical differential lock on the front axle and a redesigned braking system using 360mm discs at the front and 330mm discs at the rear. The rear discs are clamped by new four-piston calipers.

The Mini JCW Clubman also gets a facelift with new bumpers and a revised grille and splitter at the front with the rear end treated to revised LED headlights with full elliptical LED DTR light and LED Union Jack tail lights as well as a new rear bumper.

Internally the JCW Clubman and Countryman features an 8.8-inch display with professional navigation, electric and heated (front) sports seats with leather cross punch upholstery in carbon black, a head-up display, 12-speaker harman/kardon audio system and piano black interior detailing.

The JCW Clubman will also be available in a motorsport-inspired ‘Pure’ variant which gets adaptive suspension, black line grille, head- and tail light surrounds, and JCW sport seats trimmed in a Dinamica/leather combination. The 19-inch wheels are swapped for 18-inch JCW light alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres.

Mini also announced the Cooper S Clubman variant will benefit from increased equipment levels without a price hike. The update includes a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, a new grille, new head and tail light designs, black roof rails and piano black interior trim.

The 2020 Mini JCW Clubman, Clubman Pure, Countryman and the updated Cooper S Clubman will arrive locally in the fourth quarter of this year.
