Local specs and pricing have been announced for the updated 2020 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport which now starts at $45,990 drive-away.

Externally, the mid-life update brings the brand’s new dynamic shield grille, tweaked headlights and fog-lights, fresh bumpers, a higher bonnet, revised LED tail-lights, a roof-mounted rear spoiler and 18-inch new alloy wheels.

Buyers also have an expanded colour range to choose from with the addition of the new White Diamond and Graphite Grey paint options.

On the inside, there’s an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, while the range-topping Exceed also gets TomTom satellite navigation.

Other upgrades include a digital instrument cluster, a revised centre console, more soft padded surfaces, and an AC power outlet next to the existing USB port in the rear.

The storage tray that sits under the floor console is now accessible from the left and right sides of the car.

There’s also a powered tailgate with a hands-free kick feature, though it’s also exclusive to the flagship Exceed, as is the Mitsubishi Remote Control which is available via a smartphone app. It will notify drivers to lock the doors if the vehicle has been left unlocked, along with opening or closing the tailgate automatically when approaching or leaving the car.

Every Pajero Sport variant gets radar-powered autonomous emergency braking, radar-based blind-spot monitoring, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.

Mitsubishi says the 2.4-litre 133kW/430Nm turbo-diesel engine gets a tweaked combustion chamber and fuel injection in pursuit of spray optimisation, lower compression ratio and a new aluminium cylinder block to reduce wright.

An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system which employs an electronic actuator to facilitate switching between drive modes, and a rear-bias centre differential that feeds a 40 front and 60 rear torque split when set to 4WD mode. The system also features a rear-wheel drive mode and low-range gearing.

The updated Pajero Sport retains the double wishbone front and three-link rear suspension arrangements on the current model, as well as the front and rear ventilated disc brakes.
