Skoda Australia has announced the Superb Scout, a limited edition version of the Superb wagon, will be available locally during the second quarter of 2020 priced from $59,490 plus on-road costs.

The brand claims to have secured ‘several hundred’ Scouts to fill the void until the updated sedan and wagon variants of the Superb arrive towards the end of the year.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 200kW and 350Nm. A seven-speed DSG transmission sends power to all four wheels.

The Scout will be the first Skoda offered locally to include a petrol particulate filter (PPF). Skoda Australia Director Michael Irmer said: "This particulate filter can withstand petrol with 50 parts per million of sulfur, but it must be understood that these cars can run only on Premium Unleaded."

"While that's also true of all our non-filtered petrol cars, which will not run to their full capability on basic unleaded petrol, 'underfuelling' accidentally or to save money at the pump will rapidly require the costly replacement of the filter.”

"While we will continue to access non-filtered engines wherever possible, our view is that all motorists would benefit by the immediate introduction of a higher quality petrol - as used in most first world countries - with less than 10ppm in place of current 'Premium'."

For additional capability over the regular wagon, the Superb Scout gets an additional 15mm of ground clearance.

Like the wagon, the Scout's luggage compartment can be increased by 600 litres to 1950 litres with the rear seats folded.

Equipment highlights include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED matrix headlights, an automatic tailgate with a virtual pedal, adaptive chassis control, privacy glass, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, a rear-view camera and traffic jam assist.

On the inside, buyers get seats trimmed in leather and Alcantara, electronically adjustable front seats with memory, heated front and rear seats, a digital instrument cluster, climatronic triple-zone air conditioning, wireless smartphone charging, stainless steel pedals, a Canton premium sound system, and a 9.2-inch Columbus infotainment system with digital radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
