BMW has confirmed the 2 Series Gran Coupe range will gain a 220i variant later this year.
Priced from $53,990 plus on-road costs, the 220i will slot between the existing 218i and M235i xDrive models.
The 220i will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine developing 141kW and 280Nm. A seven-speed double-clutch automatic transmission sends drive to the front wheels. BMW claims the 0-100km/h dash takes 7.2 seconds.
Powertrain aside, the 220i equipment list mirrors that of the 218i meaning the M Sport package, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and tail-lights, sports seats trimmed in cloth/Sensatec upholstery, a head-up display and wireless smartphone charging are all included as standard.
Also included is the BMW Live Cockpit Professional featuring two 10.25-inch digital screens running the brand’s latest Operating System 7.0 and Intelligent Personal Assistant.
The safety kit contains autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane change warning, rear cross-traffic warning, rear collision warning and speed limit information.
BMW’s Parking Assistant also comes standard and consists of front and rear sensors, a rear-view camera, reversing assistant, and Automatic Parking Assistant (semi-autonomous parallel parking).
Buyers can option adaptive suspension which allows the driver to toggle between Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ settings.
The 220i Gran Coupe is set to arrive in Australia from the third quarter of 2020.
