Great Wall Motors Australia has announced specs and pricing for the new GWM Ute range which has already started to arrive in showrooms.

 

Replacing the Great Wall Steed, the GWM Ute is priced from $33,990 drive-away and available in three trim levels: Cannon, Cannon-L and Cannon-X.

 

Every variant is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel unit that produces 120kW of power and 400Nm of torque. Currently, only the LDV T60 offers lower outputs.

 

Power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. A rear differential lock, and disc brakes at the front and rear are also included as standard.

 

GWM claims all a combined consumption figure of 9.4L/100km and a braked-towing capacity of only 2250kg, well down on the 3500kg offered by mainstream rivals (update - GWM has re-homologated the Ute range and it can now tow 3000kg with a maximum downball weight of 300kg).

 

Dimensionally, the GWM Ute comes in at 5410mm long, 1886mm wide, 1934mm tall, with a 3230mm wheelbase.

 

For those wanting to go off-road, GWM says all Cannon models have an approach angle of 27 degrees, a departure angle of 25 degrees, and a breakover angle of 21.1 degrees.

 

While there is no ANCAP safety rating, every model is equipped with autonomous emergency braking, seven airbags, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist and rear cross-traffic alert.

The new GWM Ute also gets an improved warranty with buyers getting seven-year/unlimited kilometre coverage and five years roadside assistance.
