Australian specs and pricing have been announced for the 2021 Hyundai i20 N hot hatch ahead of a showroom arrival in the fourth quarter of this year.
Priced from $32,490 plus on-road costs, the i20 N will compete against the Ford Fiesta ST, Volkswagen Polo GTI and Suzuki Swift Sport.
Power comes from a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 150kW of power and 275Nm of torque. It’s matched to a six-speed manual transmission and a mechanical limited-slip front differential.
According to Hyundai, the i20 N can sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 230km/h.
When compared to the regular i20 range, the N model gets a retuned chassis, suspension, brakes and steering.
The chassis has been reinforced at 12 different points and features a redesigned undercover and an additional bracket.
Underneath, the suspension gets reinforced front domes and knuckles with adjusted geometry. This includes increased camber for better traction and five fixation points for the wheel as well as a new anti-roll bar, new springs and shock absorbers.
Hyundai says the all-new N Power Sense Axle at the front combined with a Dual Coupled Torsion Beam Axle (CTBA) at the rear provide higher stiffness for improved ride and handling performance.
Stopping power comes from high-performance brakes with an increased front disc, which is 40mm larger than the standard i20, while the steering ratio has been reduced from 12.4 to 12.0.
The N Grin Control System is standard with five distinct drive modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, N and N Custom.
Further equipment highlights include LED headlights, matte grey 18-inch alloy wheels shod in 215/40 R18 Pirelli P-Zero tyres, N-branded brake calipers, rev-matching and a launch control function.
Hyundai’s Performance Driving Data System is also included, it records and displays driving data, including information on power, torque, turbo boost and lap times.
The i20 N is available to order now with deliveries set to commence in the fourth quarter of 2021.
