Australian specs and pricing have been announced for the updated 2021 Hyundai Kona Electric which is already arriving in showrooms.
Hyundai will continue to offer the Kona Electric in Elite and Highlander trim levels with prices starting at $62,000 plus on-road costs.
Externally, the updated Kona Electric gets a new-look closed grille, revised daytime running lights and headlights which wrap into the body-colour wheel arch cladding, and a tweaked front bumper with satin-accented bars in the air intake.
Changes at the back are limited to new tail lights. As a result of the design refresh, the overall length has also increased by 40mm to 4205mm. It remains 1800mm wide and 1555mm tall, with a 2600mm wheelbase.
On the inside, new equipment includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, ambient footwell lighting, heated rear seats and an additional USB port in the second row.
Safety also gets a boost with blind-spot assist, rear cross-traffic assist, safe exit warning, rear-seat occupant alert, leading vehicle departure alert and lane-following assist all now included as standard.

Locally, every Kona Electric uses a 64kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack to power a 150kW/395Nm permanent magnet synchronous electric motor mounted on the front axle.
Hyundai claims the driving range has been improved by 7.8 per cent thanks to a new set of Michelin Primacy4 low rolling resistance tyres. According to WLTP testing, the range is now listed as 484 kilometres (up from 449km).
When using a 100kW DC fast-charger, the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 per cent in 47 minutes, while a 50kW unit takes 64 minutes. A 7.2kW AC wall-box can take the battery from 10 to 100 per cent in nine hours and 15 minutes.
