Updates to the 2021 Mazda CX-9 range have been announced with the seven-seat SUV now starting from $45,990 plus on-road costs.
Joining the existing Sport, Touring, GT and Azami grades will be the new Azami LE, GT SP and the limited-run 100th Anniversary Special Edition.
The new range-topping CX-9 Azami LE grade will include a second-row ‘Captain’s Seat’ layout with individual electric adjustment, as well as heating and ventilation.
There is also walk-in access to the third-row seats via a one-touch system which allows the second-row seats to automatically return to position after allowing access to the rear-most pews.
Both Azami and Azami LE grades gain new quilted Nappa leather upholstery on the first and second-row seats, redesigned aluminium interior trim, fresh 20-inch alloy wheels, Titanium Grey metallic front grille finish and larger rear tailpipes.
The new CX-9 GT SP, based on the GT grade, features a dark gunmetal grille design, black mirror caps, and black 20-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, black interior decoration panels, red stitching highlights to the steering wheel, door trims, centre console and armrests, and Burgundy leather seat upholstery will be found.
Completing the trio of new grades is the 100th Anniversary Special Edition which will be limited to 110 units in Australia.
The burgundy and white colour theme of the original high-grade R360, Mazda’s first-ever passenger vehicle, has been chosen with burgundy throughout the cabin including the Nappa leather, carpet and floor mats. This is contrasted by the Snowflake White Pearl Mica exterior.
Every CX-9 also receives the latest Mazda Connect infotainment system with a 10.25-inch colour screen, as well as ‘Qi’ wireless smartphone charging functionality fitted as standard on GT models and above.
For CX-9 Touring and higher models, there's now improved paddle shifters for enhanced control of the six-speed automatic transmission.

All grades are powered by the 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which develops 170kW and 420Nm. Power goes to the front or all wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
The updated Mazda CX-9 range is due to go on sale in early 2021.
