Nearly two years after its initial reveal, local specs and pricing have been announced for the new 2021 Toyota Kluger ahead of a showroom arrival in June.
The headline act is the availability of a hybrid drivetrain for the first time in Australia to finally offer an alternative to the 3.5-litre petrol engine.
At launch, Toyota will offer three familiar trim levels: GX, GXL and Grande, with prices starting from $47,650 plus on-road costs.
Built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), the Kluger measures 4966mm long, 1755mm tall and 1930mm wide, with a 2850mm wheelbase. Compared to the outgoing model, the new generation has grown by 60mm in length, all of which has been added to the wheelbase.
Underneath, there’s a newly developed multi-link front and rear suspension, while stopping power comes from larger 340mm front and 338mm rear ventilated disc brakes.
Safety gets a significant boost with autonomous emergency braking, road sign assist, emergency steering assist and intersection turn assistance included as standard across the range.

The hybrid powertrain is available across all three grades. It consists of a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two front and one rear-mounted motor-generators which produce a combined output of 184kW. Toyota doesn’t quote a total torque figure on any of its hybrid models. The hybrid set-up is matched to an e-CVT automatic that sends power to the e-Four all-wheel drive system.
Buyers can also opt for a naturally-aspirated 3.5-litre petrol V6 engine offering 218kW and 350Nm. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. V6 powered models are available in front- and all-wheel drive configurations across all trim levels.
The 2021 Toyota Kluger is available to order now with deliveries set to commence in June.
