Specs and pricing have been announced for the 2021 Volkswagen Touareg range headlined by upgraded V6 models and the arrival of the flagship V8 TDI R-Line variant.
The V8 TDI R-Line shares the Bentley Bentayga’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo diesel V8 that delivers 310kW and a whopping 900Nm. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends drive to all four wheels.
Performance-wise, Volkswagen claims the Touareg V8 TDI R-Line can sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds – 0.1 behind the Australian-specification Golf R, while fuel consumption on the combined cycle is 7.4L/100km.
The range will open with the 170TDI which gets a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel making 170kW and 500Nm, it’s matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
Volkswagen says it will complete the 0-100km/h dash in 7.5 seconds.
Moving to the 210TDI sees the outputs of the turbo-diesel V6 increase to 210kW and 600Nm. It also features an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The extra grunt cuts the 0-100km/h sprint down to 6.1 seconds.
Interestingly, Volkswagen will offer the 210TDI in both Elegance and R-Line trim levels.
The 2021 Touareg will be the first to wear the new Volkswagen logo which will feature on the front and rear badges, wheels, the new 'Touch' steering wheel, instrument cluster, infotainment systems and key fobs.

Pricing for the updated Touareg range starts from $81,490 plus on-road costs for the 170TDI and tops out at $136,490 plus on-roads for the TDI R-Line. Volkswagen says the full range will be available from October.
