The all-electric BMW i4 has been priced for Australia ahead of its local arrival in the first quarter of 2022.
At launch, BMW will offer two grades: the i4 eDrive40 and i4 M50, with prices starting from $99,990 plus on-road costs.
The i4 will line-up against the popular Tesla Model 3 which is significantly more affordable following recent price cuts and has access to the US brand’s supercharger network.
The entry-grade eDrive40 uses an 80.7kWh battery that feeds an electric motor positioned on the rear axle. The system produces 250kW of power and 430Nm of torque.
BMW claims a 0-100km/h time of 5.7 seconds, while the driving range is 590km according to the WLTP cycle.
The flagship i4 M50 also uses an 80.7kWh battery to power a dual-motor all-wheel drive set-up. In normal driving situations, the powertrain outputs 350kW and 730Nm. In Sport Boost mode, outputs increase to 400kW and 795Nm for a 10-second burst.
With a full charge, the M50 offers a driving range of 510km (WLTP cycle), while the 0-100km/h sprint takes 3.9 seconds.
DC fast charging is possible at up to 200kW. BMW says the i4’s range can be increased by as much as 164km (eDrive40) and 140km (M50) within 10 minutes from a 10 per cent charge level.
The M50 will come equipped with adaptive M suspension with a bespoke tune, plus variable sport steering and M Sport brakes.
Both models will get the BMW’s new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen running the latest iDrive 8 infotainment system that will debut on the iX SUV.
Luggage space is 470L, expanding to 1290L with the rear seats folded.
