Ford has announced the availability of the Ranger Wildtrak X special edition, the off-road focussed ute starts at $65,290 plus on-road costs.

The Wildtrak X is differentiated by 18-inch alloy wheels with +35 offset in matte black finish, black fender flares, a black nudge bar with LED light bar, an A-pillar-mounted snorkel and a dark-finished grille, lower bumper area and door handles.

On the inside, buyers get leather-appointed seat trim, orange stitching on the steering wheel, gear selector and handbrake, and an 8.0-inch infotainment system running Sync 3 with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Ford has equipped the Wildtrak X with the full suite of safety tech including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, hill descent control, hill launch assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, active park assist, an electronic rear differential lock and a rear-view camera.

Buyers can choose from two powertrain options starting with the familiar 3.2-litre 147kW/470Nm five-cylinder turbo-diesel engine mated with a six-speed automatic transmission. Alternatively, the 2.0-litre 157kW/500Nm four-cylinder bi-turbo matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission is available.

The bi-turbo model offers 30kg extra payload at 950kg whilst the 3.2-litre engine drops back to 920kg payload. Both come with a 3500kg maximum towing capacity.
