The Maserati Levante GTS has been confirmed for Australia, the V8 powered Italian is due to arrive late next year designated as a MY20.

The V8 in question is a 3.8-litre twin turbo unit that develops 404kW of power and 730Nm of torque. Maserati says the eight-cylinder engine is a reworked version of the unit found in the Quattroporte GTS.

It’s fast enough for an SUV, from a standstill it can hit 100km/h in 4.2 seconds on its way to a top speed of 292km/h.

An eight-speed ZF automatic transmission sends drive to all four wheels, Maserati’s Q4 system to be precise.

To accommodate the high power output from the engine the chassis of the Levante GTS has been tuned to suit. The Integrated Vehicle Control (IVC) system will also be included for better driving dynamics and road handling.

For the Levante GTS version, a restyled and lower front fascia and rear bumper lean toward a sportier presence.

Inside, the Levante GTS also gets full premium leather upholstery, sport pedals and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system as standard. The infotainment graphics have also been upgraded.

Glen Sealey, Chief Operating Officer of Maserati Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, commented: “From the moment the V8 Levante was hinted at, let alone revealed in the USA, we have had clients wishing to put their name down for the ultimate Maserati SUV.”

A specific launch date has not been confirmed as yet but it is expected to arrive late in 2019, Australian pricing is also expected to be confirmed closer to this date.
