Renault Australia has confirmed 20 examples of the limited edition Megane RS Trophy-R will be available to local enthusiasts, alongside 100 units of the Megane RS Trophy.

According to Renault, the Megane RS Trophy-R is the “most high-performance production car” the French marque has ever put on the market.

The RS Trophy-R uses the same 1.8-litre turbocharged engine from the RS Trophy, it generates 224kW of power and 420Nm of torque. It’s exclusively matched with a six-speed manual gearbox, as it’s lighter than the dual-clutch EDC.

In total, engineers have jettisoned 130kg of weight when compared to the standard RS Trophy.

Other changes include completely redesigned suspension, that includes a front axle with an increased negative camber, lighter rear H axle and specific adjustable Öhlins shock-absorbers.

Carbon wheels from Carbon Revolution in Geelong are standard and wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza S007 tyres which are exclusive to Renault Sport. Brembo brakes are standard, however, buyers can option Brembo carbon-ceramic discs.

Aerodynamics have been tweaked too for better circulation of airflow with specific underbody fairings and a carbon diffuser. There’s also optimised thermal control by way of an NACA air intake and brake scoops.

The result of the changes is a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 262km/h.

There’s no need to spend time thinking about colour options, the Trophy-R is only offered in pearl white with red headlights.

With production capped at 500 examples globally and only 20 headed to Australia, Renault has decided to use an online sales portal, similar to what Toyota has used for the new Supra.

Renault’s online sales portal will open with an exclusive pre-sale for registered customers at 9 am before going on sale to the general public at 12 pm on Monday, July 8. Pricing will be confirmed at a later date.
