Toyota Australia has announced the GR Supra will receive a power upgrade and suspension changes towards the end of 2020.
The Supra’s 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine will get an additional 35kW (up 14 per cent) of power taking the total outputs to 285kW and 500Nm.
Incidentally, the Supra’s power boost mirrors that of it’s recently upgraded cousin the BMW Z4 M40i.
Toyota is also promising the freshly tuned suspension will bring more track-focused handling aided by new under-bonnet chassis braces for greater rigidity.
Pricing has not been announced for the updated GR Supra, however, Toyota says it’s likely the price will rise. The press release goes on to say the availability of the updated model is expected to be more limited than for the current car.
While on the current GR Supra, keen buyers should note there is a limited number of cars now available directly from dealerships.
This follows a highly successful series of online reservations that was designed to ensure a fair allocation of restricted initial stock, with total sales reaching 345 cars to the end of January this year.
Currently, the 250kW/500Nm version is priced from $84,900 plus on-road costs for the Supra GT, with the top-of-the-range GTS variant starts at $94,900 plus on-roads.
The GT gets an eight-speed automatic transmission, launch control function, an active limited slip differential, adaptive suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in bespoke Michelin rubber.
Standard kit also includes autonomous emergency braking with daytime pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a rear-view camera, parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, leather-accented sports seats with eight-way electric adjustment and lumbar support, wireless smartphone charging, and a 10-speaker multimedia system with satellite navigation.
The flagship GTS variant adds 19-inch alloy wheels, sports pedals, a head-up display, and a premium 12-speaker JBL sound system.
