Toyota has announced the availability of the Kluger Black Edition priced from $55,970 plus on-road costs.

Based on the mid-grade GXL variant, the Black Edition adds a variety of black styling elements including a black upper grille, roof rails and lower side mouldings. There’s also smoked backplates for the headlights and 19-inch gloss-black alloy wheels.

Equipment highlights carried over from the GXL includes tri-zone climate control, power tailgate with separate-opening glass hatch, premium seat coverings and door trim, keyless smart entry and start, 12-way power driver's seat, an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with satellite navigation, digital radio, a 4.2-inch multi-information display in the instrument cluster and rain-sensing wipers.

Toyota’s Safety Sense package is standard and brings autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure alert, active cruise control, automatic high beam, blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, rear-view camera and seven airbags.

Power comes from the familiar 3.5-litre 218kW/350Nm V6 petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota is offering the Black Edition in two-wheel and all-wheel drive guises priced at $55,970 and $59,970 respectively, which represents a $1020 premium over the GXL.

For those interested in consumption, on the combined cycle the front-wheel drive model uses 9.1L/100km, while the all-wheel drive version uses 9.5L/100km.

The Kluger remains an important model for Toyota, last year, the brand moved 14,743 Kluger vehicles representing an increase of 17.9 per cent.
