Toyota Australia has announced its retrofit program to add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality will commence from November 1.
Owners of the current generations of the Camry, Corolla and Prius can have the smartphone mirroring tech retrofitted for $199, while Granvia, HiAce and RAV4 owners will get the retrofit free of charge.
For new buyers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will now be included as standard on all the aforementioned models, along with the upcoming Corolla sedan and updated C-HR.
"By offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility in our vehicles, we are continuing to refine our market offerings and provide our customers with the products and services that enhance their lives," said Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia Vice President Sales and Marketing.
"The technology will allow our customers to stay informed, entertained and in touch with the wider world from behind the wheel, directly through the vehicles' upgraded multimedia systems," he said.
Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus is also expected to roll out a similar retrofitting program in due course. Lexus currently offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the updated RX SUV and ES sedan.
Note: We contacted Toyota to determine if the retrofit would be available for the Supra, and at this stage, Supra owners miss out on the upgrade despite the tech being standard in other markets.
