Vehicle recalls this week number two, the first from Volkswagen and the second from Mazda.

Vehicles recalled this week from Volkswagen include:

2010 B6 Passat (supplied between 19 August 2009 and 30 August 2011).

2009-2016 Passat CC (Supplied between 30 December 2008 and 22 June 2016).

2009-2016 MK 6 Golf (Supplied between 6 February 2009 and 30 August 2013 in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory).

2012 - 2015 MK 6 Golf Cabriolet (Supplied between 1 January 2012 and 1 January 2016 in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory).

This range of vehicles is being recalled due to the use of potentially faulty Takata airbag inflators.

As with all Takata airbags, as they age, are exposed to high temperatures or humidity, the risk of the airbag inflator propellant degrading increases. This can result in the metal inflator housing rupturing and expelling metal fragments into the vehicle potentially causing serious injury or death.

Volkswagen will be contacting known affected owners to advise that a free airbag inflator needs to be fitted free of charge as soon as possible. A list of affected VINs can be found here or by checking the industry supported website established to combat the Takata airbag scandal.

A significant number of 2016-2018 Mazda BT-50 (UR) utes sold between June 12, 2016, and September 24, 2018, have been recalled in relation to two front brake issues.

Firstly, the front brake hose may rupture after 45,000km should the vehicle be used in conditions that require the front suspension to operate through its full range of movement.

Secondly, the front brake caliper material may not meet specification resulting in cracking of the front brake caliper.

In the event of a failure of the front brake hose or cracking of the front brake caliper a loss of brake fluid could result as well as increased brake pedal travel and increased stopping distances. This increases the risk of an accident.

Mazda Australia plans to contact known affected owners as soon as parts to repair or replace the defect are available. Affected VINs can be found here.
