The 2020 MG HS mid-size SUV is now available in Australia priced from $30,990 drive-away, giving the brand a rival to the popular Mazda CX-5 and Toyota RAV4.

Dimensionally, the HS comes in at 4574mm long, 1876mm wide and 1685mm high, with a 2720mm wheelbase.

At launch, MG will offer the HS in two grades – the Vibe and Excite – both powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 125kW and 250Nm. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sends drive to the front wheels.

Opening the range is the Vibe model (from $30,990 drive-away) which gets keyless entry and push-button start, LED daytime running lights, automatic headlights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, ambient lighting, a cooled centre console storage bin, four USB ports, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth.

The MG Pilot suite of safety tech is standard and includes autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, lane change assist, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

The range-topping Excite (from $33,990 drive-away) adds 18-inch alloy wheels, an electric tailgate, LED headlights, welcome lights, trophy badges, satellite navigation, rain-sensor wipers, dual-zone climate control, a sports driving model and paddle shifters.

MG backs the HS with a seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty and seven-year roadside assistance coverage.
